Course Planning for the Business Minor
Because students earning the business minor come from a wide variety of different majors and degree programs, there is no one prescribed academic path that all business minor students will follow. However, interested students and their academic advisors should consider the following:
- The College of Business Administration strongly recommends that the five required courses be distributed across at least two semesters (three or four semesters are fine, as well). Note that all of the required courses are offered in the fall, spring, and summer terms.
- BUSACC 0030 Financial Accounting must be completed before BUSFIN 1030 Introduction to Finance. This is the only sequence among the minor courses; the other courses may be taken in any order.
- BUS 1865 The Business Minor Capstone is currently offered only in the spring.
Suggested Minor Path 1:
- Prerequisites completed in first year of college, student admitted to minor for fall of sophomore year
- Two business requirements completed fall of sophomore year, two business requirements completed spring of sophomore year, and one business requirement completed fall of junior year
- Completion of Business Minor Capstone in spring of junior year
Suggested Minor Path 2:
- Prerequisites completed during the first year and a half of college, student admitted to minor for spring of sophomore year
- Two business requirements completed spring of sophomore year, and three business requirements completed fall of junior year
- Completion of the Business Minor Capstone in spring of junior year
Suggested Minor Path 3:
- Prerequisites completed during the first two years of college, student admitted to the minor for the fall of junior year
- Two business requirements completed fall of junior year, two business requirements completed spring of junior year, and one business requirement completed fall of senior year
- Completion of the Business Minor Capstone in spring of senior year
Students are encouraged to complete the Business Minor Capstone during the spring of junior year or spring of senior year.
Students should consult with their primary academic advisor to determine their progress toward the completion of their degree, and to discuss their next steps after college. Questions specific to the Business minor may be directed here.
