Sometimes there’s just no substitute for someone who’s “been there, done that.”
Students at the University of Pittsburgh College of Business Administration can now hear directly from alumni about their work experiences. The AlumniCast Insider Series features Pitt Business alumni from Salesforce, Boston Consulting, General Mills, Oracle, Paramount Pictures, SEER Interactive, and the Minnesota Timberwolves & Lynx.
By design, the videos are short and to the point. Alumni share how they got their job, what working for their company is really like, which skills and attributes are the most important for students to learn, and what steps students should take to prepare themselves to work in this field.
“Pitt Business alumni are in leadership positions around the world and are an incredible resource for our students. They truly care about the success of our students, and are always volunteering their time to find new ways to help support students,” says Audrey J. Murrell, associate dean of Pitt Business and director of the David Berg Center for Ethics and Leadership.
Each alumnus and alumna featured in the AlumniCast Insider Series is also active in the school’s Mentoring Match program. The innovative program gives students the opportunity to receive one-on-one, alumni-to-student mentoring support in the area of career development and networking.
“I encourage our students to watch a video and then follow up by connecting with the alumni through Mentoring Match,” Murrell says. “Our alumni want to hear from you. That’s why they signed up to be mentors. It’s why they did the AlumniCast Insider Series. They truly want to help you and are committed to our vision of taking students From the Classroom, To the City, To the World”
