Congratulations on finishing your Fall ‘22 semester! Between all the relaxing and holiday celebrations you may partake in, we have created a quick checklist of things to do if you are still on the internship hunt and are in search of productivity:
- Update your LinkedIn! Whether it be taking a new professional profile photo, spicing up your “About” section to match your interests, catching up on recent posts created by your connections, etc., utilizing your LinkedIn profile to its full potential is a great way to expand your job search as well as develop your professional network. Connecting with fellow students in your clubs and organizations you may recognize is a great idea!
- Reach out to at least 5 LinkedIn connections at companies you are interested in. Take the time to talk to professionals and gain insight into a company. They may offer you an opportunity or give advice that is extremely helpful to fulfilling your internship wishes. Asking a professional to have a quick phone call would help build your knowledge of a field and connections.
- Talk with your family and friends about their work. Hearing firsthand about their industries and career paths may help you get a better idea of what you may or may not want to do. Speaking with others may help you figure out which type of internship you may want to pursue. You can also ask to shadow anyone whose career path you are interested in!
- Create a list/spreadsheet of the top companies you are interested in in your particular industry. For each company list, any important research points you have found an internship position posting website links to stay on top of your applications. Don’t forget the due dates!
If you have not accepted an internship at this point, do not be discouraged! A good opportunity may be waiting for you – you just have to go out there and find it. Come by the Career Development Office located in the Tafel Center in Sennott Square to talk with our staff for additional support and advice. You can also set up an appointment with any of our staff via Handshake. We are here to help!
