To celebrate the University of Pittsburgh Year of Global Initiative, Pitt Business is highlighting alumni who have taken their work #ToTheWorld through international roles after graduation.
Meet Abhishek S. Mehta, a 2005 graduate of Pitt Business who majored in finance. He is the founder and principal of Blue Lotus Investments in Mumbai, India. We caught up with him recently for a brief Q&A.
How did you get to the position and location you are at now?
Currently, I live in Mumbai and have been here since I started my own firm three to four years ago. Prior to that, I was working as an investor in New York City for a couple of large family investment offices.
What is the favorite aspect of your job/daily workflow?
I really enjoy meeting entrepreneurs who run interesting businesses in all kinds of industries and then deciding whether to invest with them or not.
How did Pitt Business specifically help you get to where you are today?
Pitt Business gave me the coursework to start asking global questions as well as the resources to explore my interest in international business even further.
Favorite Pitt Business memory?
Every Ray Jones class — he made learning fun. He even made the writing and analytical thinking portions fun.
What is your advice to current students planning an international career?
Try learning a bit of a foreign language, study world history to understand global context, and travel wherever you can, however you can (e.g. global experiences, internships, community service projects).
